Living Lab Iron Fuel Technology
The Living Lab Iron Fuel Technology aims to showcase the practical application of Iron Fuel Technology within an industrial setting, reaching Technology Readiness Level 8 (TRL8). The project focuses on the comprehensive demonstration of generating, storing, converting, and exchanging sustainable energy, aligning with technical, economic, and environmental standards. Compliance with regulations, ensuring a reliable supply, obtaining certifications, securing financing and insurance, and garnering public support are integral aspects of the project.
Fuel to future: from lab to market
The primary goal is to successfully demonstrate Iron Fuel Technology within an industrial environment, establishing its viability and efficiency. This involves creating a collaborative living lab with various project partners to collectively advance and implement the technology on a large scale. Connecting the entire value chain facilitates a more impactful deployment of the technology, accelerating its commercial rollout.
Upon the successful completion of the project, Iron Fuel Technology is expected to meet the commercial requirements of end-users and financiers. This entails the conversion of letters of intent into commercial projects ranging from 5MW to 20MW. By achieving this milestone, the technology can progress to larger scales, enabling energy-intensive industries without sustainable alternatives to reduce carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, aligning with climate goals.
Catalyzing change: expected outcomes
• Demonstration system Design and construction of a demonstration system meeting user and value chain requirements, featuring a 1MW iron fuel boiler and a 200kW iron fuel production system.
• Skill development community Establishment of a community fostering the necessary skills for the commercial application of Iron Fuel Technology, with knowledge sharing among all involved and interested parties.
• Technology demonstration Validation of the technology, including safe storage and environmentally friendly transportation, through collaboration with users, insurance companies, certification bodies, and financiers.
• Public support enhancement Efforts to enhance public support for Iron Fuel Technology, laying the foundation for its succesful commercial implementation in the market.
