We have signed a reservation agreement with Port of Rotterdam for a location at the Maasvlakte, supporting the further development of commercial-scale Iron Fuel Production projects in Northwestern Europe. The Rotterdam project forms part of our broader roadmap towards large-scale deployment of Iron Fuel Technology and builds alongside the previously announced plans in Antwerp.

“A few years ago, InnovationQuarter joined RIFT as an investor, strengthening our connection to the Rotterdam region,” says Mark Verhagen, CEO and co-founder of RIFT. “Building on that relationship, this agreement allows us to further explore how Iron Fuel Technology could become part of the industrial landscape in Rotterdam.”
Rotterdam is a logical place to continue building. The region combines many of the elements needed to bring industrial innovation into practice: infrastructure, logistics, industrial demand, and increasing availability of low-carbon hydrogen. More broadly, it also reflects the strength of the Dutch industrial and innovation ecosystem, where companies, governments, investors, and knowledge institutions increasingly work together to accelerate the energy transition.
Developing in parallel
Projects like these take years to develop. Different locations, partnerships, and industrial clusters each move at their own pace, which means continuing to explore additional opportunities is simply part of building towards long-term commercial deployment. In that context, Rotterdam represents an important addition to the broader roadmap, alongside the previously announced developments in Antwerp.
