Powering the grid of tomorrow.

GENIUS transforms the TU/e campus into a real-world living lab for smart energy management. Together with industry and knowledge partners, the project develops and validates technologies that reduce grid congestion, optimise energy use and accelerate the integration of sustainable energy systems. RIFT contributes its Iron Fuel Technology as a flexible thermal energy solution within the campus energy hub.

Growing electricity demand and limited grid capacity are slowing down the energy transition. Campuses and industrial sites need integrated energy systems that can balance supply and demand while creating room for electrification and sustainable growth.

GENIUS transforms the TU/e campus into a living lab for smart energy management. The project develops and validates an integrated energy management system, an open digital twin and flexible energy assets, including Iron Fuel, to demonstrate scalable solutions for congestion management.

Expected impact.

• Demonstrate an integrated energy management system for congestion prevention.
• Validate an open digital twin for campus energy systems.
• Accelerate market adoption of innovative energy technologies through a real-world living lab.
• Deliver a scalable blueprint for campuses and industrial sites facing grid congestion.
