Ongoing

Building commercial readiness.

This project prepares the world's first commercial Iron Fuel Production Plant at Maasvlakte 2 in the Port of Rotterdam. During the project, RIFT will complete the feasibility studies, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), commercial preparations and operator training required to support a final investment decision. The project lays the foundation for commercial Iron Fuel Production, enabling a circular fuel supply chain that supports the decarbonisation of industrial heat.

Identifying a suitable location is only the first step towards commercial deployment. To enable a future Iron Fuel Production Plant at Maasvlakte 2, the selected site must be validated through engineering, commercial preparation and project development before implementation can begin.

Expected impact.

By completing the technical, commercial and organisational preparation of the selected Maasvlakte 2 site, this project reduces the risks associated with future implementation of an Iron Fuel Production Plant. The project delivers the engineering, commercial agreements, permitting activities and operational readiness required to support a future investment decision.

Beyond project preparation, it strengthens the conditions for large scale deployment of Iron Fuel Technology, contributes to industrial decarbonisation and supports the development of a new circular energy value chain.
